LR, Trying to Shower when Babysitting a 9 month old, and Weekly Goal Time...

Today's Workout:  no weights or ab work I was determined to get my LR in.  15.2 miles on the treadmill.  First 5 miles at 1.0 incline and last 10.2 at .5 incline.  It took me 1:56.  (not including the 5 minute potty break in between treadmill trades.)  I was suppose to do 15 miles this Saturday but since I am planning to run a 10k and have today off of work I decided to tackle it today.  I didn't love it, but I did it!!

After my run I went straight to pick up baby James.  Once a week I get to hang out with the craziest little 9 month old in Utah.  This little man is seriously so cute and makes my day every week.  He is so active right now and just so much fun.
Meet James.  He will most likely outgrow me before the age of 5.  He already has me beat in head circumference as you can see.

Today I had a bit of a dilemma.  I really needed to shower after running 15.2 miles and didn't know how I would accomplish this with a 9 month old wild monkey running around.  So on my way home I called and consoled my mother and she simply suggested not showering.  (I should have followed her advice apparently).  Well I refused to sit in my sweaty spandex all day so I came up with a plan.  I locked the Izzy dog in the spare bedroom, turned the babies favorite TV show Sid the Science kid on, hid all of the dog toys and put up the dog food, made sure there were no hazards in sight, and left the bathroom door open so I could hear what was going on.  I hopped in the shower rinsed off and washed my hair in 3 minutes, grabbed a towel and ran out to check on the baby.  This is what I found:

Yes that is a dog bone in the babies mouth.  He decided to crawl all the way over to the big couch and grabbed the bone from clear under the couch.  He couldn't have had it for more than 30 seconds but needless to say I will never attempt to shower while caring for a small child ever again.  I'm sure once his mother and grandmother see this I may never get the chance to care for the small child for the rest of my life.  How do you mothers do it?

**As an important side note I only watch James 4-6 hours a week and this is the 3rd consecutive week in a row he has pooped twice while under my care.  You can only imagine how fun it is to change a child's poopy diaper while they are rolling around the house.  Maybe he's trying to get back at me for feeding him dog bones for breakfast?

Everyone say a little prayer for baby James and I promise to forgo my future cleanliness to sacrifice for the well being of the child.

Weekly Goal:  Okay take a deep breath.  My weekly goal is to attend at least 2 group exercise classes this week.  I used to love turbo kick and core strength group classes but I gave them all up when I pursued running.  I can tell I am getting a little burnt out on running and really want to try some yoga, and possibly a spin class.  Working out with others is fun and it is outside my comfort zone right now so I am excited to see how it goes.  Wish me luck.  Breaking routine can be incredibly hard for me.

Any class suggestions?  I am looking for early morning or early evenings preferably at SF Golds Gym.  Let me know if you want to join me.

  1. yayyyy!!! good job on your LR...that is awesome! so proud of you. I was wondering today if I would potentially be able to do any classes in the next 2 weeks. Maybe I could do spin? I dont know...I learned today that it is hard for me to stand totally on my right leg because my foot is too painful/weak...so maybe one-legged activity classes are out. anywayyyyy...so excited for your LR. totally wish I could of been running right next to you!

  3. Nice job on your LR!! You did so awesome! I know there are always cycle/spin classes in the wee hours of the morning. My sister has been going to them at the AF Golds, and she said it's a pretty intense workout. I may try it for my cross training workout in the AM! I have this apparently awesome yoga DVD that I have yet to try. I have a love/hate for DVD's. Because there is a 70% chance that the instructor will be annoying enough to make me turn it off. But, you can do it from home, which is nice.

  4. Ohhh, AND! The Rex Lee is sounding tempting, because it would force me to run on Saturday! If I can con my Momma into coming along to hang out with my Little C while I run, I will definitely sign up!

  5. That is hilarious. Kids are freakin' fast and WILL always find/eat what you are trying to keep them away from. I do love that you snapped a picture of it before you took it away from him. :)

P.S. you rock... 15 miles on a treadmill? great time (& incline). if you ever want to join my Mom and I for long runs you are more than welcome. just remember that we are SLOWer than you. ;)

  6. Wow, way to go on your long run! You're so speedy.
I have to admit that my son found our dog's bone once and he had it in his mouth. I took a picture before I took it away from him so I'm not much better! Showers are challenging with young kids. You're lucky he didn't pull the shower curtain back and get himself and the floor all wet!
I like your weekly goal. Group classes can be so much fun and it is good to cross train!

  8. Haha my poor baby. He is super fast and so good at getting into anything and everything he shouldn't. Today I put up a baby gate in front of the elliptical to keep him safe while I did a little exercise. He pulled himself up to standing on the coach next to me and showed off his new skill of clapping as he cheered me on.
